- You are Already a Great Mother! -

□ KoPHWA and the Ministry of Health and Welfare hosted the 19th commemorative event of Pregnant Women’s Day(10.10.).

○ Pregnant Women’s Day was established in 2005 in order to promote a societal atmosphere of care and consideration for pregnant women.

○ It is celebrated annually on the 10th October: Month of October symbolizes abundance and harvest, and the ten months represents the full-term pregnancy.

□ This year’s event consisted of a pre-ceremony, Part 1 of recognition awards, a congratulatory performance, and Part 2 featuring special lecture for pregnant women, with the theme of “You are Already a Great Mother!”

○ Pre Ceremony: During the pre-ceremony, booths were set up to provide consultations on topics such as prenatal & postpartum depression, medication use during pregnancy, and general pregnancy-related counseling. These booths offered pregnant women the opportunity to discuss psychological and physical concerns that may arise during pregnancy.

○ Recognition Awards and Prizes: Recognition awards were presented to individuals who contributed to promoting healthy pregnancies, childbirth, and efforts to overcome the declining birth rate. Recipients were honored with national orders of merit, the Presidential Citation, and the Prime Minister's Citation. Awards were also given for winning short-form videos from the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s campaign to promote consideration for pregnant women.

○ Special Lecture for Pregnant Women: In the special lecture, psychiatrist Jung Woo-yeol spoke on “The Time to Prepare for Parenthood,” discussing the importance of prenatal care and how to mentally and emotionally prepare as both a couple and parents, based on his own parenting experience.

- Pharmacist Lee Ju-young from The Seoul Pharmaceutical Association followed with a session titled “Easy-to-Understand Medication Tips,” where she explained the safe use of medications during pregnancy and answered questions about the effects of medications on the fetus at different stages of pregnancy.

□ President Lee Sam-sik of KoPHWA emphasized, “For pregnant women to experience a healthy and happy pregnancy and childbirth, it is essential to foster a social environment of care and consideration.” He added, “KoPHWA will lead efforts to expand societal awareness through surveys and campaigns, promoting a culture of care for pregnant women.”
